The Association
The Taoxenia Association represents over 40 non-hotel accommodation facilities and short-term rentals, including B&Bs, Apartments, Holiday Homes, Guest Houses, and Villas, a sector that accounts for 4% of the National GDP.
The idea to form an association came from the desire of some of us to create a network of small and micro businesses like ours, present in the area. A network for discussion and collaboration to solve the problems of our businesses together, to have a voice and to be represented before the institutions.
The association's founding act was signed on May 4, 2020, and the board is made up of the founding members: president Paola Costa, vice president Massimo Cifali, general secretary Evelyn Turiano, treasurer Roberto Parisi, and board member Stefano Intilisano. We also have a group of 5 additional board members.
The association is democratic, free from any ties with other associations or political parties, is pluralist, pursues and protects its own autonomy, guarantees the independence of its members and the transparency of its operations and activities, following the principles and rules of the Statute. Joining gives the opportunity to access information, training, mutual assistance services, and business consulting so as to develop economically in accordance with the laws of the State, the Region, and the Municipality.
To this end, we have been invited to participate as founding members, together with 28 other associations from all over Italy, in the National Federation F.A.R.E. (federation of non-hotel accommodation associations), which has just been established in recent days.
For the association, it is a great recognition, almost a year after our founding, to take part in a national project and to have a founding role acknowledged. In these twelve months, we have made ourselves known locally, having taken part in several meetings with the city administration, with other sector associations present in the area, and having a seat as a representative of the non-hotel sector on the Taormina city tourist tax commission, something that is happening for the first time.
In these months, we have organized a series of online meetings and seminars for our members on various topics, including Destination Management, presenting Costa Meraviglia, Revenue Management with forecasts for 2021-2022, we introduced a management software suitable for our types of facilities with the company Persefone.it, and a meeting with the category associations of Entrepreneurs, hoteliers, and retailers, which was also attended by the tourism councillor. More meetings are planned for next autumn-winter. We are available with a WhatsApp chat to respond immediately to all questions or requests from our members, by email, and through our Facebook and Instagram pages.
We have also entered into agreements with service and goods suppliers (tax consultant, insurance agency, beverage wholesaler, and more) to access discounts.
Joining does not mean being a passive part of a group or waiting for the board to come up with ideas and solutions when problems arise; joining means actively participating in solving the problems of each member, it means contributing something to the group.
For our part, we have put in and will continue to put in our commitment to always be informed and present, and we expect the same presence from every single member.
